“Today, because of the broad popularity of golf, simulators are a highly affordable way to attract exhibit traffic or to help people relax together during downtimes at corporate meetings,” says Ryan DeGrand, Principal, which recently expanded its event services business. Celebrating 50 years in business, St. Louis-based ProAm Golf long ago extended its vibrant retail golf business into the corporate market. Today, in addition to offering a complete line of golf brands and products for use as corporate gifts, incentives, rewards, and recognition, its services include personal fittings at both corporate events and at the locations at the leading golf brands.
Golf simulators appeal to a broad audience, because they focus either on driving or putting, activities many non-golfers enjoy as well, as demonstrated by the popularity of miniature golf, driving ranges, and sports entertainment centers. Because of their compact size, roughly 10’ by 10’ by 10’, they fit conveniently in a standard booth size and/or take up little room in a conference lobby or meeting room floor.
“Best of all,” DeGrand adds, “they require little set up time or equipment, so exhibit hall drayage costs are minimal or non-existent, and only one staff person from ProAm is required if there are no event gifting options or fittings.” At corporate events and meeting, an additional ProAm expert can host event gifting options, which he recommends include a selection of accessories or individual drivers or putters.
DeGrand believes simulators offer unique branding and relationship building opportunities, because they can include signage and adjacent sitting areas for people to chat while waiting their turns.
The technology enables sponsors to select a local or other courses for use in the simulation to further personalize the event when appropriate, and can include both driving and putting.
A high-quality portable golf simulator includes:
- An accurate launch monitor that accurately measures ball speed, launch angle, spin rate, and other metrics.
- A portable net or impact screen.
- A clear and vibrant display to enhance realism.
- Accurate ball flight and course representation.
- A hitting mat that mimics the feel of a real course.
