Terry Markwart, Industry Innovator, Friend

One of the giants in the Special Markets arena, Terrence “Terry” Markwart, 66, passed away Wednesday evening, June 3, 2015, at age 66 after a courageous battle with lymphoma. Terry devoted 30 years of his professional life working for Canon USA as Director of National Accounts in the Imaging Technologies Communications Group and a Senior Advisor for Government Sales with the Professional Engineering and Solutions Group. During his tenure at Canon, Terry pressed for innovation and helped develop specialized optical equipment that is now used by the U.S Navy Seals. He also grew Canon into a leader in the incentive marketplace and lent his considerable talents to numerous industry initiatives and committees. He was most recently CEO of Markwart & Roeser, an industry consultancy.

Terry was born Jan. 5, 1949, in Brown City, MI, the son of Robert William and Audrey Jane Markwart and most recently lived in Berthoud, CO. He graduated from Capac High School and Northwood University in Midland, MI. He is survived by his wife, Susan Roeser; his children, Lindsay and Tyler Markwart; stepchildren Katy and James Roeser; his parents, Robert and Audrey Markwart; brother, Luther Markwart; sisters Melanie Arnold and Heidi Devereux; and numerous other relations.

“Under Terry’s leadership, Canon has made investments in the incentive industry in terms of supporting research and information sharing that will long out-live him,” said Bruce Bolger, Managing Director of the Enterprise Engagement Alliance. “A lot of what we have learned about the role of rewards and recognition in business came from research and other efforts he helped support.”
